TGI Friday's Inc. is a US company and operator of the TGI Fridays restaurant chain with more than 990 restaurants in over 60 countries. The company is part of the Carlson Companies . The first restaurant was opened on March 15, 1965 in New York City , the branches are mostly organized through a franchise system . On May 20, 2014, TGI Fridays was sold to Sentinel Capital Partner and TriArtisan Capital Partners.

The company name TGI Fridays is an abbreviation of Thank Goodness it's Friday ("Thank God, it's Friday"). Since TGIF is a universally used abbreviation for Thank God it's Friday , Thank Goodness it's Friday or Thank Gosh it's Friday in American English , the abbreviation TGI is also used differently from the official company version. In Germany there after the closure of the branch at the Berlin Alexanderplatz no branches; the restaurant in Patrick-Henry-Village in Heidelberg was closed on January 31, 2007 after four years and was only accessible to American military personnel. In Austria there is a restaurant on the Ringstrasse in Vienna on Schwarzenbergplatz. In Minsk there is a branch on Nezavisimosti Prospect. The chain has further European branches in Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Latvia, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary and Cyprus.
Appearance
The restaurants are kept in the corporate colors of red and white on the outside and the interior is mostly furnished in a retro design . You can also find old American signs or posters on the walls. The brand is also known for its Tiffany lamps , although they have not been used since the turn of the millennium as part of a redesign.
