Tadeusz Sławek
Tadeusz Sławek (born December 5, 1946 in Katowice ) is a Polish poet, essayist, translator, literary critic and professor.
Sławek studied English and Polish at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Since the early 1970s he taught at the University of Silesia , was vice dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and from 1996 to 2002 rector of the university. In addition, he taught a. a. in Norwich, San Diego, Naples and Stanford. He is a member of the Polish Writers' Union, the Presidium of the Poland in United Europe Committee and the Presidium of the General Council for Higher Education. He was awarded the Lux ex Silesia Prize and the Solidarność Literature Prize.
Sławek specializes in the history of English and American literature and literary theory. As a translator, he also emerged with translations of the works of William Blake and Seamus Heaney as well as of texts by John Lennon and Jim Morrison . He holds the chair for comparative literature at the University of Silesia.
