Tage Konrad Leopold Larsson (born November 11, 1905 in Stora Köpinge , Malmöhus län ; † July 15, 1998 in Sweden ) was a Swedish actuary who worked as a scientist part-time. After him (together with Torsten Sjögren ) the Sjögren-Larsson syndrome was named, which represents a form of mental retardation in combination with a progressive spastic paraplegia and ichthyosis , which occurs endemically almost exclusively in Sweden.

Life

Larsson was born in 1905 as the son of Per Larsson and his wife Maria, b. Persson was born in the small town of Stora Köpinge in southern Sweden . In 1923 he began his studies at Lund University and graduated in 1927 with a master's degree . In 1933 he obtained his licentiate in statistics . From 1929 to 1934 he worked as an assistant at the Statistical Institute at Lund University and at the same time in 1930 as a lecturer in Malmö. In 1934 he started to work for the life insurance company Skandia and rose rapidly (1935 actuary ; 1944 assistant director, 1949 vice director, 1955 division manager). Larsson married Margareta Ahldén (1912–1971) in 1935, daughter of Anders Ahldén and his wife Anna, geb. Nilsson. From 1964 until his retirement in 1970 he worked for Thule Life Insurance. When he retired from work, he was one of the leading men in the Swedish life insurance industry. Larsson was 1934 chairman of the student corps Lund, 1933 to 1936 secretary at the union of the academic professions and from 1957 to 1974 member of the Swedish insurance group.

In addition to his work in the private sector, he cultivates his scientific interests. In the 1940s he met the Swedish psychiatrist and geneticist Torsten Sjögren . Their collaboration, based on Sjogren's medical knowledge and Larsson's static analysis, brought important new discoveries to light. In the period from 1949 to 1967 they published eight joint articles on nerve disorders, based on clinical and genetic demographic studies. Her work on Sjögren-Larsson syndrome can be seen as her main research contribution . In recognition of his scientific achievements Larsson in 1951 from the University of Stockholm the honorary doctorate awarded in medicine. In the 1960s Larsson published two monographs on mortality and diabetes in Sweden.
