Taiko no Tatsujin ( Japanese 太 鼓 の 達 人 ) is a musical game series by Namco . The first title appeared in 2001 as an arcade machine . Implementations for home consoles have appeared since 2002: First for PlayStation 2 , later for PlayStation Portable (2005) and Nintendo DS (2007). There have been numerous publications in Japan and one in North America under the name Taiko: Drum Master . The player uses a simulated Taikotrommel - Controller to the percussion instrument notes to play a selected piece of music as they appear on the screen. For the PlayStation 2 there is the Tatacon , which is a 1000 g controller that looks like the top of a taiko drum and is sold with two bats and a table stand. Using sensors, impacts can be differentiated in four areas: the right and left sides of the surface or frame. The version for Nintendo DS uses the touchscreen . The versions for PlayStation Portable or Nintendo DS can be played wirelessly by four players together .
Game mechanics
Symbols move on a horizontally aligned time axis and indicate when which action must be carried out. The home versions differentiate between single and double hits, the arcade versions between hard and soft hits.
In the Japanese version, subtitles show the pronunciation of the sounds (for example "do don do don") according to the traditional Kuchi-shōga system (口 唱歌).
Despite its cute presentation, the game is quite difficult. To pass, the player must complete 75% of the hit score. The higher levels of difficulty ( Muzukashii and Oni ) and modifiers such as hidden require a lot of skill and reading skills.
Good play fills a bar . If at the end of the song the reading is above a certain value, it is considered a pass.
