Teimuras II ( Georgian თეიმურაზ II ; * 1680 in Tbilisi , † January 8, 1762 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Georgian king from the Bagratid dynasty. He was Wālī of Kakheti from 1709 to 1715, King of Kakheti from 1733 to 1744, and King of Kartlien from 1744 to 1762.

In his first phase of rule he supported Nader Shah , who had founded the Afsharid dynasty after the fall of the Safavids , in the re-establishment of the Persian Empire. He campaigned against the Ottoman Empire and put down anti-Persian uprisings in Georgia. In return, Nader Shah allowed him and his son to be crowned kings of Kakheti and Kartlia in a Christian coronation ceremony. The coronation of Teimuras II took place on October 1, 1744 in the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and was the first such ceremony in a century. With the support of his son and heir to the throne, Erekle II , he extended his influence to parts of today's Armenia , Azerbaijan and northwestern Iran by 1752 . In 1754 and 1755 he fought the Lesgier , which had invaded east Georgia again and again, and defeated them in two battles.

When the Persian Empire showed weaknesses again, Teimuras II looked for allies against Persia. For this purpose he traveled to Russia in 1760 in order to receive military or financial aid against the Persians. On this trip he died in Saint Petersburg. He was buried in the Georgian Church of Astrakhan .

Teimuras II was not only king, but is also valued for his poetry.
