Takashi Ōi
Takashi Ōi ( Japanese 大 井 貴司 , Ōi Takashi ; born October 16, 1947 in Mie Prefecture ), also Takashi Ohi , is a Japanese jazz musician ( vibraphone , also marimba , glockenspiel).
Ōi studied music at the Kunitachi Music College; after graduation, he toured the United States, where he a. a. performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival . From the 1970s he worked in the Japanese jazz scene a. a. with Tatsuya Takahashi and the Tokyo Union Orchestra , with which the first recordings were made ( Up in the Blues ), also with Eri Ohno and Yoshiaki Miyanoue . In 1981 he recorded his debut album Good Vibration (Union Disk), on which Akira Miyazawa , Hajime Ohno , Shozo Okamoto , Keiji Kishida and as a guest musician John Lewis participated. In the following years he played a. a. with Harumi Kaneko , Hidehiko Matsumoto and Chiaki Ogasawara . With Gene Harris and Ray Brown the album Mr Blue was created for Denon Records in Tokyo at the end of 1988 ; In 1995 the production Time Stream followed , which Ohi recorded with Junior Mance , Bob Cranshaw and Grady Tate . In the field of jazz he was involved in twelve recording sessions between 1978 and 1995.
