Tatsuya Takahashi
Tatsuya Takahashi ( Japanese 高橋 達朗 , Takahashi Tatsuya ; born December 27, 1931 in Tsuruoka , Yamagata Prefecture ; † February 29, 2008 ) was a Japanese jazz musician ( tenor saxophone and band leader ).
In the 1970s, Takahashi headed the big band formation Tokyo Union Orchestra ( 高橋 達 也 & 東京 ユ ニ オ ン ), with which he recorded a number of albums, stylistically between big band jazz, fusion and funk . Partly similar to the music of the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra . His band included u. a. Seiji Inoue and Takashi Ohi . In 1978 he performed with the 17-strong Tokyo Union and the singer Mari Nakamoto at the Montreux Jazz Festival ; he also performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival . In 1983 he released an Ellington album ( Chasin the Duke ). In 1988 he recorded the tribute album Plays Miles and Gil (Paddle Wheel); The arranger was David Matthews . From the 1980s he worked with his trio Tatsuya Takahashi 3 (with Kenji Nishiyama and Nobuo Kato ), also with Takeshi Inomata , Naoki Nishi , Yasuko Agawa , Nobuo Hara , Martha Miyake and most recently with Shūji Atsuta . In the field of jazz, the discographer Tom Lord listed his participation in 21 recording sessions between 1975 and 1999.
