Talamancaheros (Talamanca + Heros ) is a genus of Central American cichlids found in rivers thatflowfrom the Cordillera de Talamanca into the Pacificin eastern Costa Rica and western Panama. The genus was only introduced in April 2016 by a team of Czech ichthyologists . Before that, the species of the genus belonged to Cichlasoma , Tomocichla , Theraps or Paraneetroplus at times.

Talamancaheros species are about 25 cm long and have a moderately elongated body, a relatively long caudal stalk with 5 vertebrae, only a few (4–5) anal spines, many pectoral fin rays (16) and a slightly underneath mouth that allows them to grow and algae Scrape off existing food from hard surfaces. The teeth are conical, without a second point, and flattened on the labiolingual (lip and tongue sides). The number of scales along the sidelines is also relatively high, at 32 to 33. During the breeding season, the fish take on a light, almost whitish color. The underside of the head is then blackish.
