Talbot is an impact crater on the eastern edge of the lunar front , in the Mare Smythii plain , southeast of Haldane crater and west of Runge . The crater is very flat because of the lavas of Mare largely flooded.
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the British astronomer and photography pioneer William Henry Fox Talbot .
