History and sights
Finds prove a prehistoric settlement. To be mentioned are the Anta of the Capela dos Mouros in the village of Arcas and the listed megalithic complex Chão de Redondo . The Romans settled in the area in the first century AD . A Roman road crossed today's community, long pieces are still preserved here and are now a listed building.
The current town was probably built after the Reconquista . In the 17th century it was already an independent municipality. A number of religious buildings from this period are listed in the community, including the Mannerist parish church Igreja Paroquial de Talhadas (also Igreja de São Mamede after its patron saint ) from the first years of the 18th century.
