Talinella is a genus of plants of the Talinaceae familywithin the order of the carnation-like (Caryophyllales).

description

They are deciduous shrubs with long and overhanging branches. The upright, bald or warty-haired shoots arise from a bulbous rhizome ( caudex ). The short-stalked leaves are arranged alternately and usually have a thickened central rib underneath. The flowers appear on racemose panicles at the end of the shoot or in terminal panicles at the end of short shoots. The inflorescence consists of two slightly fleshy sepals and 2 to 5 white, pink or red petals . The ovary is chambered during flowering. This is a unique and therefore generic feature. The non-tearing, green to reddish berry fruits contain up to ten, glossy black and up to 1 mm large seeds.

distribution

The species of the genus are common throughout Madagascar , with the exception of the humid forests on the east coast.
