The García de Sola dam or Puerto Peña dam ( Spanish: Presa de García de Sola or Presa de Puerto Peña ) is a dam with hydropower plant in the municipality of Talarrubias , Badajoz province , Spain . It dams the Guadiana into a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity as well as irrigation and drinking water supply. It was completed in 1962 (or 1963 or 1965). The dam is state-owned and operated by Endesa Generacion SA .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 64.9 (or 65 or 66) m above the foundation base . The top of the wall is at a height of 364 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 245 m. The volume of the dam is 220,000 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 76 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 4760 (or 4877) m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 4900 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 363 m, the reservoir extends over an area of ​​around 33.35 (or 35.5 or 37.28) km² and holds 554 million m³ of water; 333 million m³ of this can be used. The reservoir extends over a length of 35.8 km.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 33 (or 55.2 55.5 or 65.4) MW . Each of the three turbines has a maximum output of 18.53 MW. The machine house is located below the dam on the left side of the river.
