The dam Cíjara ( Spanish Presa de Cíjara ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in Spain . It dams the Guadiana , which forms the border between the municipalities of Alía , province of Cáceres and Herrera del Duque , province of Badajoz , into a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity as well as irrigation and drinking water supply. It was completed in 1956. The dam is state-owned and operated by Endesa Generacion SA .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 80 (or 81) m above the foundation base . The top of the wall is at a height of 430 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 295 m. The volume of the dam is 368,000 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 240 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 4,738 (or 4760) m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 4760 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 428 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 63.5 (or 65.56 65.65 65.67 or 66.43) km² and has a capacity of 1.505 (or 1.523 or 1.67) billion. m³ of water; 1.47 billion m³ of this can be used. The reservoir extends over a length of 45 km.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 84 (or 102.1) MW . Below the dam there is an engine house on both sides of the river (50.4 MW on the right and 51.7 MW on the left). The average annual production is 60 million kWh . The four generators together produce a maximum of 123.6  MVA .
