Talut wall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Talutmauer (from French talutage " Verdachung ") is a wall with a small, protruding roof to protect the fruit espaliers from above and to keep them warm for longer thanks to the sun's rays stored in the wall. To improve the already favorable microclimate and to extend the ripening period, panes of glass can be placed in front of the Talut wall. Ripe fruits can be harvested on Talut walls in northern regions or climate-sensitive noble fruit varieties can be grown in the first place. Talut walls were often used for viticulture. As Talutanlage a system is known from several Talutmauern.
