Tania Saleh

Tania Saleh (born March 11, 1969 in Beirut ) is a Lebanese singer and songwriter .

life and work

Tania Saleh grew up in Beirut. She studied fine arts at the Lebanese American University . In addition to her studies, she was engaged in music and played in several bands. After the civil war she went to Paris to complete her studies in 'Art Plastique'. Back in Beirut, she initially worked as an advertising designer and started her career as a singer. The artist sings in Arabic. Since 1990 she has been experimenting with various styles of music such as folk, rock, jazz and electronic music. Saleh works with many musicians, for example with Zaid Rahbany, Charbel Rouhana , Ibrahim Maalouf , Charlotte Caffey , Bernd Kurtzke, Anneli Drecker , Mathias Eick and Khalil Judran. She recorded her first solo album in 1996. In 2007 she wrote the lyrics for the film Caramel by the Lebanese director Nadine Labaki and in 2011 for the film Where Do We Go Now? . In 2014 she wrote the theme song for the film 'Heritages' by Philip Araktinji with Rayess Bek.

Saleh participated in many workshops in Lebanon, France , the USA , Sweden and Switzerland . Important venues were the Byblos International Festival, the Beirut Spring Festival, the Music Hall (Beirut), Dar Al Opera, the Bibliotheca Alexandria, the Dubai Design District (UAE), the National Theater of Doha (Qatar), the Al Shaheed Park (Kuwait ), the Roxy & Arlington Festival (USA), the Odeon Theater (Jordan), the Free Zone and Women's Voice Festivals (Norway), the Kulturhuset Stadsteatern (Sweden), The Barbican (London). In 2019 she took part in the Stockholm Culture Festival together with the Swedish singer Lina Nyberg .
