Tanrake is the administrative center and capital of Nui - atoll in the Pacific island nation of Tuvalu . It is the only village on the atoll comprising 21 islands. Tanrake is located in the northwest of the main island Fenua Tapu in the south of the atoll. Tankrake has 321 inhabitants (as of 2012).

The place has a hospital, church and post office. In addition, the seat of the island administration ( Kaupule ) is located in Tanrake .

A Dutch expedition led by Marine Lieutenant Pieter Troost sighted Tanrake on the morning of June 14, 1825 and formally took possession of the island. Since no suitable name was found, the discovery was provisionally noted in the expedition's logbook as “Het Nederlandsch Eiland”. However, the Dutch East India Company was not interested in permanent possession , as Tanrake was too remote and had no significant resources.
