Tantalum (III) bromide , TaBr 3 , is a salt of tantalum from the group of bromides .

Extraction

The recovery of the compound is prepared by the reduction of tantalum (V) bromide achieved. The vapors of tantalum (V) bromide and hydrogen are passed through a tube at 700 ° C.

properties

Tantalum tribromide reacts with water and alkalis . This creates hydrogen and the tantalum is oxidized to Ta 4+ . For this purpose, the brown solid tantalum (IV) oxide was created as a reaction product, which slowly becomes tantalum (V) oxide under normal conditions . Strong oxidizing agents such as nitric acid or permanganic acid immediately oxidize the tantalum into the tantalum (V) oxide.
