Wallpaper roll with rubber roller

The wallpaper roll is a tool that is used as an aid when attaching wallpaper or foils .

Other names

The wallpaper roll is also referred to as: wallpaper roller, wallpaper roller, wallpaper roller, wallpaper pressure roller, wallpaper pressure roller, wallpaper pressure roller, foam rubber roller, foam rubber roller.

construction

The usual width of the roll is approx. 15 cm, the diameter differs depending on the version. The surface of the roller is made of rubber , cellular rubber or PUR foam . The roll is held by a bent steel wire . This is provided with a handle made of wood or plastic .

use

With the help of the wallpaper roll, the pasted wallpaper is pressed against the wall during wallpapering . Air bubbles are pressed out between the wall and the wallpaper by even pressure when rolling over the wallpaper. The wallpaper is pressed on from top to bottom, any air bubbles that may be trapped are pushed from the center of the strip to the side edge. It should be noted that the pattern is embossed on wallpapers, the pressure of the roll does not press the embossing smooth.

Using the same procedure, foils are also pressed onto smooth surfaces with rubber rollers in order to avoid the inclusion of air bubbles.

Special designs

Seam roller with corrugated plastic roller

The seams of the wallpaper are additionally pressed on with the seam roller (also known as: wallpaper seam roller) in order to ensure a secure bond. The barrel-shaped roll of the seam roller has a width of 5 cm and a diameter of approx. 4 cm. The roll consists of (corrugated) plastic, PUR foam or rubber. The wallpaper corner roller has a similar structure, which is particularly suitable for pressing the wallpaper into corners thanks to its conical plastic roller.

A special feature is a wallpaper roller with which, through raised structures on the roll, as well as a second, parallel foam roller that is to be soaked in color , colored patterns can be rolled on wallpaper.

Alternatives

Wallpapering brush

As an alternative to the wallpaper roll, the wallpaper brush can also be used. Use is equivalent to the role. In the wallpaper manufacturers' instructions for wallpapering, the wallpaper roll and the wallpaper brush are mentioned as equivalent alternatives.

The manufacturer predominantly recommends the wallpaper roll only for photo wallpapers, as the surface of sensitive wallpapers can possibly be damaged with a brush.
