Tarrango

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tarrango is a red wine variety . The new breed was presented in 1965 by the Horticultural Research Station of the CSRI in Merbein in the state of Victoria , Australia. It is a cross between the Touriga Nacional and Sultana varieties. The breeder of the strain was Alan J. Antcliff. In 2005, 201 hectares of vineyards were planted with this variety in Australia.

The Tarrango ripens very late and therefore rarely comes to full maturity. It is therefore only suitable for very warm climates, as are common in Victoria, Australia. There, Beaujolais - similar red wines that should be drunk young - are made from it . It is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ).
