Tassara is a rural municipality and the capital of the Tassara department of the same name in Niger .

geography

Tassara is located at the transition from the Sahel to the Sahara desert . The neighboring communities are Ingall in the northeast, Abalak in the southeast, Tchintabaraden in the southwest and Tillia in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 19 administrative villages, four hamlets, 25 camps and 27 water points. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Tassara.

history

An administrative post ( poste administratif ) was set up in Tassara in 1971 , a lower administrative unit headed by a chef de poste administratif . The rural community of Tassara was created as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform in a previously community-free area. The administrative post of Tassara was removed from the Tchintabaraden department in 2011 and elevated to the Tassara department.

population

At the 2001 census, Tassara had 17,952 residents. For 2010, 24,187 inhabitants were calculated.

politics

In the local elections in July 2004, Mahamed Chérif ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On April 15, 2010, the Council of Ministers appointed Mahamed Chérif as Administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) of the municipality.

Culture and sights

Every two years in October there is a festival of Arab cattle breeders in Tassara and the neighboring municipality of Tillia .

Economy and Infrastructure

To the south of the part of the municipality in which the desert predominates, pasture farming is the main industry.
