history

The name Tchintabaraden comes from Tamaschek and means "valley of the girls". Tchintabaraden became the capital of the Nomade de Tahoua district in 1960, the year Niger became independent, from which the Tchintabaraden arrondissement emerged in 1964 and the Tchintabaraden department in 1998. The Dakar Rally took place in January 1985 via Tchintabaraden. The sub-prefecture of the arrondissement was the target of attacks by insurgent Tuaregs in the 1980s and 1990s . In May 1985, an attack by armed Tuareg left three dead. In an attack in May 1990, 31 people were killed, and a further 63 people were killed in the subsequent counter-attacks by Niger's armed forces . In 2009 floods caused material damage, which directly affected around 2,400 residents.

population

In the 1977 census, Tchintabaraden had 7,656 inhabitants, in the 1988 census 5,150 inhabitants and in the 2001 census 8,142 inhabitants. For the year 2010, after an enlargement of the municipal area, 29,934 inhabitants were calculated.

Culture and sights

On the western edge of the town there is a Friday mosque built in 1984 in the style of a court mosque . Grain stores border the south-eastern, low-rise courtyard wall. There are trees in the northern and western parts of the courtyard. The entire complex of the mosque covers an area of 504 square meters. The prayer room accounts for 104 square meters. The prayer room building has a square floor plan with a vaulted roof and dome-like dome, typical of the Central Sudan architectural style. The mihrab -Vorbau is cuboid, the outer walls are unarticulated. The Adhān platforms built east of the Niger Arch increase in height. The highest podium in the entire region can be found at this Friday mosque. The Adhān staircase is partially covered. The interior has five transversal and five longitudinal aisles. There is a two-tier minbar platform on the south side . The flooring is sand.

Economy and Infrastructure

The city is located in a zone where pasture farming is the predominant form of employment. There is a cattle market in Tchintabaraden. The market day is Sunday. Tchintabaraden is also the seat of a Tribunal d'Instance, one of the 30 civil courts nationwide , which are below the ten civil courts of the first instance (Tribunal de Grande Instance). On May 17, 2000, the second local public radio ( radio communautaire ) in the country after Bankilaré went into operation. The national road 22 , which connects the place with the neighboring community Kao, runs through Tchintabaraden .
