Tasso Springer

Tasso Georg Ulrich Springer (born October 6, 1930 in Munich ; died March 3, 2017 there ) was a German physicist and university professor .

Life

Tasso Springer studied physics at the Technical University of Munich and, after completing his habilitation in 1961, worked from 1962 as institute director at the Jülich nuclear research facility in North Rhine-Westphalia . Like his mentor Heinz Maier-Leibnitz , with whom he obtained his doctorate , he earned services to research with neutrons . Together with Maier-Leibnitz he discovered and developed the principle of conducting neutrons by reflection (neutron guide).

From 1977 to 1982 Tasso Springer was the director of the European research institute Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble . He was very committed to the construction of the FRM II . At the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen he was professor for experimental physics .

In 1992 Tasso Springer was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Federal Cross of Merit ), 1st class. He was a member of the Science Council , the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts and other committees.

Tasso Georg Ulrich Springer was married and had two children.
