Taste was an Irish rock band .

history

Taste was founded in Cork in August 1966 as a trio consisting of Rory Gallagher (guitar and vocals), Eric Kitteringham on bass and Norman Damery on drums. The band toured Ireland and also performed in Hamburg before getting a permanent job at the Maritime Hotel, an R&B club in Belfast .

After Taste began appearing more and more in Great Britain in 1968, the original line-up broke up with the exception of Gallagher. Richard McCracken on bass and John Wilson on drums were added. This formation signed a record deal with Polydor in London . Then Taste toured the United States and Canada with the British supergroup Blind Faith . In 1969 the band recorded the studio albums Taste and On the Boards . The second album contains clear jazz influences, so Gallagher played some passages on the saxophone. In November 1969 the band opened the " Cream’s Farewell" concerts together with Yes .

On August 28, 1970, Taste performed at the Isle of Wight Festival , along with bands such as Chicago and Procol Harum . This concert was very well received by the audience and the band was called out to give five encores. The band then toured Europe and gave a show in Belfast on New Year's Eve 1970. After that, Taste broke up as front man Rory Gallagher wanted to focus on a solo career. McCracken and Wilson then formed the band Stud with other musicians .

At the end of 2006 John Wilson gave a few concerts under the name Taste. He was complemented by Nick Scott on bass and Sam Davidson on guitar. Eric Kitteringham, the bass player of the original line-up, died on May 7, 2013 in Cork at the age of 66.
