Death on the Rest Area is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The report produced by Bayerischer Rundfunk was first broadcast on April 12, 1982 on ARD's first program. It is the second mission of Commissioner Lenz, played by Helmut Fischer .

action

The student Bruno Harkort occasionally takes on trips for the "Oberkirchner" forwarding company. One day he is supposed to step in for the failed driver Werner Latsche at short notice and set off as usual. In the evening he stops at a motorway service station, and when he comes back to the truck after his break, an unpleasant surprise awaits him. A stranger sneaked into the car and shoots Harkort from behind without warning.

Chief Inspector Lenz is called and appears with Faltermayer and Brettschneider. At first Lenz tries to reach someone in Harkort's shared apartment , but initially doesn't meet anyone. Brettschneider, meanwhile, asks Josef Oberkirchner, who cannot say whether Harkort had enemies, because the autopsy shows that the deceased had broken a rib two days ago, which indicates a quarrel. Lenz thus suspects one of the roommates, but the young people seem genuinely surprised and also shocked by Harkort's sudden death. Nina Friedrich was close friends with the victim and reports to the inspector that Rolf Wiederberg had had more and more arguments with Harkort recently. They were both in a political do-do-better group that Harkort wanted to get out of because the actions were too violent for him. So asked Lenz Wiederberg, but he denies having killed his friend.

The driver Werner Latsche is summoned and can not imagine who should have killed his colleague. He had called him himself and asked to fill in for him, as he had been out and about for the past seven days and felt overtired. He recently had a serious traffic accident that left three dead and, although he was not responsible for the accident, he might have prevented it if he hadn't been overtired. From this experience he had become more cautious. Nevertheless, he had felt guilty and in the past few weeks visited the family man who was injured in the accident and whose wife and two children were killed. Strangely enough, this Bernd Hellweg disappeared from the hospital six days ago. Lenz follows this lead and finds out that he was a difficult patient. The superintendent has a search for Hellweg and tries to reach Latsche as well, since it is obvious that the murder was aimed at him and that he is in great danger. Latsche is currently on the Munich-Salzburg autobahn and is stopping at the very same roadhouse where Harkort was shot. The police tried to reach Latsche over the traffic radio , which his driver colleagues also overheard and came to his aid when Hellweg wanted to shoot Latsche. Lenz and Brettschneider arrive and arrest Hellweg.

background

With a running time of just 62 minutes, the film is one of the shorter in the crime series and was shot from November to December 1981 in and around Munich .

Commissioner Ludwig Lenz took over the position of chief commissioner Veigl ( Gustl Bayrhammer ), who retired in April 1981 with the Munich crime scene Tatort: African violets . Until then, he was the assistant who wanted to prove to Kriminalrat Schubert that he was up to the new task. Lenz investigated a total of seven cases between 1981 and 1987.

criticism

The critics of the television magazine TV-Spielfilm rated this film in review in 2015: “No. 2 of the seven Lenz cases is the only 'crime scene' that only lasts 60 minutes. First charmer Fischer criticizes the working conditions of the truck drivers, then he stumbles into a crude terrorist tale. ”Conclusion:“ Obscure thriller about bad political boys. ”
