Tau is a place in the Fylke (Province) Rogaland in the south of Norway . It is located about 15 km northeast of Stavanger and has about 3,200 inhabitants.

The place is in Ryfylke , in Strand municipality . Lake Bjøheimsvatnet lies east of the city, connected to two small nature reserves . The stream Åa rises from this lake, then runs through the town and flows into the Krossvatnet . The highest point in the city is the Kvamafjellet at 213 meters . The stream Strandsåna runs south of the city. A little south of Tau is the village of Solbakk .

Tau is on federal highway 13, which has been expanded to become a national tourist route. Stavanger, 15 km away, can be reached by the Stavanger – Tau ferry connection, which is to be replaced by the Ryfylketunnel in 2019 . Jørpeland Community Center is 10 km south .
