The Taurus Crocus ( Crocus fleischeri ) is a plant from the genus of crocus ( Crocus ).

features

The Taurus crocus is a perennial tuber geophyte that reaches heights of 4 to 6 centimeters. The onion skin is woven from very fine fibers. The 5 to 8 (possibly up to 12) leaves are 0.5 to 1 millimeter wide and green or gray-green. The flowers are fragrant. The perigone lobes are pointed, white in color and purple or brownish at the base on the underside. The throat is yellow. There are 2 bracts. The 6 or mostly more branches of the style are thin and orange to scarlet red.

The flowering time is in March, rarely it extends from February to April.

Occurrence

The Taurus crocus occurs in the eastern Aegean as well as in western and northern Turkey. The species grows in the oak and pistachio maquis on open rocky hills at altitudes of 750 to 1300 meters.

The Taurus crocus is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and borders. The species has been in culture since 1875 at the latest.
