Taxodioideae is a subfamily of the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It is assigned to three types. Representatives of this subfamily are found in East Asia and southern North America.

The species from the subfamily Taxodioideae grow as evergreen or deciduous trees . The leaves are needle-like or scale-like. They are arranged in a spiral on the branches. The chemical substance Taiwania flavone is not produced in the leaves.

All representatives are single-sexed ( monoecious ) and their ovules are erect.

Systematics

The subfamily Taxodioideae was founded in 1873 by Karl Heinrich Koch in dendrology. Trees, bushes and subshrubs that are cultivated outdoors in Central and Northern Europe. Critically illuminated by Karl Koch , Volume 2 (2), page 186. Synonyms are Cryptomeriaceae Hayata and Limnopityaceae Hayata .

There are three recent genera in the subfamily Taxodioideae, two of which are monotypical , i.e. consist of only one species.
