Tayeb Braikia

Tayeb Braikia (born March 8, 1974 in Aarhus ) is a former Danish cyclist and today's cycling coach.

Cycling career

Tayeb Braikia was one of the most successful cyclists in Denmark in the 1990s and early 2000s, on the road and on the track . In 1992, as a junior, he achieved podium places in various disciplines at Danish championships for the first time. In 1995 he won the Scandinavian team pursuit championship . Until 1998 he won further titles and podium places in national and Scandinavian championships of the elite, such as the Danish championship in the team pursuit in 1996, 1997 and 1998, where well-known drivers such as Jimmi Madsen , Michael Sandstød and Jakob Piil drove with him. In 1996 he won the Danish championship in road racing for youngsters.

In 1997 Braikia took third place in the Tour de Berlin . In the following years he continued to drive and win road races, such as the Ronde van Overijssel (as the first non-Dutchman) and the Wilmington Classic in 1998 , the Circuit Franco-Belge in 1999 , the Clásica de Almería in 2001 , and in 2000 he competed in the Giro d'Italia . But he increasingly focused on track cycling and six-day races . He started in a total of 29 six-day races and won 1997 in Grenoble with Jakob Piil and 1999 in Copenhagen with Jimmi Madsen. At the UCI Track World Championships in 2000 in Manchester , he was fifth in the points race , in the same year Danish runner-up in the single pursuit and points race; In the two-man team race, he finished third with Morten Voss Christiansen .

In 2001, Tayeb Braikia fell on the first stage of the Tour of Murcia in a mass sprint. He suffered a serious shoulder injury and had to end his active cycling career at the age of 27.

Professional

Braikia has been the trainer of the Danish national track cycling team since 2009, until January 2011 together with the German Sven Meyer . From 2002 to 2005 he held this post before.
