Tazenda

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tazenda is a band from Sardinia that plays a very melodic rock with demanding, sometimes critical, but above all very poetic lyrics in Sardinian and Italian . The group fuses elements of traditional Sardinian music with rock and is one of the most individual representatives of Italian rock music.

Career

The band was founded in 1988 by three members of the Coro degli Angeli group as one of the first ethnic rock groups in Italy. The name Tazenda is derived from a fictional planet from Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy.

The founding formation consisted of

  • Andrea Parodi (voc) (since 2007 Beppe Dettori)
  • Gino Marielli (g) and
  • Gigi Camedda (keyb, voc)

With the piece A sa zente they celebrated their first small success at the Sanremo Festival in 1988, and their debut album Tazenda , which was released a short time later, was well received by both critics and audiences. In the following time the successes increased u. a. with two other, much- noticed appearances at the Sanremo festivals in 1991 (together with Pierangelo Bertoli and the song Pitzinnos in sa gherra - Spunta la Luna dal monte ) and 1992 . The level of awareness grew so that the album Murales, which was released in Italy in 1991, already had a circulation of more than 200,000 and was also distributed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (via Virgin ). At the latest since about this time they have been considered the musical figurehead of Sardinia .

They toured intensively, first through Italy and later also abroad, won several Italian prizes, worked with numerous Italian and international artists such as Fabrizio de André or Simple Minds and were his support at Sting's only concert in 1994 on Italian soil. Tape.

They undoubtedly reached the peak of their musical development in 1995 with their album Fortza paris , produced in the USA , which, along with Murales and Limba (1992), was probably the most impressive work of the group.

Parodi, the unmistakable voice of Tazenda, left the band in 1997 to embark on a solo career, during which he produced three albums, including one with Al Di Meola . The group never really coped with Parodi's departure (he was replaced by Gianmario Masu, among others). Creativity, quality and productivity suffered noticeably in the period that followed.

In 2005, however, after the group had been quite quiet for a few years, a new album with eleven first-published titles was released with Bumba and on June 4, 2006 a reunion concert with Andrea Parodi took place in Porto Torres ( Sardinia ) in front of 20,000 listeners.

Andrea Parodi died of cancer on October 17, 2006 at the age of only 51. In 2007 his album "Rosa Resolza" was released posthumously, which he recorded together with Elena Ledda.

Also in 2007, Beppe Dettori took the place in the group that Andrea Parodi had previously filled. Concerts in many places on the Sardinian island and on the mainland followed. During the year the group achieved new successes with the album “Vida” and the single “Domo mia” (dedicated to Andrea Parodi). It was more by chance that a collaboration with Eros Ramazzotti, who actually worked as a producer for the Radiorama label, came about. Finally, the album was awarded the "Golden Record" in Italy. In 2008 the album "Madre Terra" followed. The single of the same name was created in cooperation with the singer Francesco Renga (formerly with Timoria ). The sound moves, as almost always with Tazenda, between traditional and modern. The gaze of the texts is directed towards the future, they move between environmental problems and a positive attitude towards life. An interesting musical experiment is the song "Phonetic Illusion", in which the Sardinian language is modulated so much in English that if you listen superficially you hardly notice which language it is actually about.

Beppe Dettori left the band in late 2012 and was replaced by Nicola Nite in early 2013 .
