Tchirozerine is a department in the region of Agadez in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the center of the country. It consists of the urban parishes of Agadez and Tchirozérine and the rural parishes of Dabaga and Tabelot . The eponymous capital of the department is Tchirozérine.

history

The area of ​​the department Tchirozérine originally belonged to the Arrondissement Agadez , created in 1964 , which emerged from a district ( circonscription ) of the same name in the Aïr region. The area of ​​the Arrondissement Agadez was divided into the Arrondissements Tchirozérine and Arlit in 1969 .

In 1998 the previous Arrondissements of Nigers were converted into departments, each headed by a prefect appointed by the Council of Ministers. The division of the department into municipalities has existed since 2002. Before that, it consisted of the urban centers Agadez and Tchirozérine and a residual zone. In 2011, Aderbissinat and Ingall were separated from the Tchirozérine department as separate departments.

According to the 2012 census, the Tchirozérine department has 244,706 inhabitants. In the 2001 census, before the separation of Aderbissinat and Ingall, there were 206,389 inhabitants, in the 1988 census 128,372 inhabitants and in the 1977 census 92,140 inhabitants.
