Dabaga is a rural municipality in the Tchirozérine department in Niger .

geography

Dabaga is located in the south of the Aïr high mountains in the northern Sahel region . The municipality is divided into 46 administrative villages, seven traditional villages, two hamlets, seven camps and seven water points. The main town of the rural community is the oasis town of Dabaga, consisting of the traditional village of Dabaga I and the administrative village of Dabaga II. The neighboring communities are Dannet and Timia in the north, Tabelot in the east, Aderbissinat in the south and Ingall and Tchirozérine in the west. In addition, the regional capital Agadez is completely surrounded by the municipality of Dabaga.

The "Forêt classée de Dabaga" is a 1050 hectare protected forest area in the municipality of Dabaga. It was placed under protection in 1959.

One of the oldest larger settlements in the municipality and in the entire Aïr is the village of Aoudéras . The rural community of Dabaga was established as an administrative unit in 2002 in a previously unincorporated area. In October 2007 there was an incident involving MSF . The project had to be canceled. In 2009, floods caused material damage, which directly affected around 10,000 residents. In the flood disaster in West and Central Africa in 2010 , 1692 residents of Dabaga were classified as disaster victims.

At the 2001 census, Dabaga had 18,286 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 23,969. Mainly Tuareg live in this region , occasionally also Hausa .

Economy and Infrastructure

In the main town of Dabaga there is a livestock market that is particularly important for trade with Algeria . In the village of Elméki , tin mining began in the 1950s .
