Aderbissinat is a rural municipality and the capital of the Aderbissinat department in Niger .

geography

The municipality, located in the central part of the country, is located on the southeastern edge of the reserve Réserve Totale de Faune de Tadrès and around 200 kilometers south of the regional capital Agadez . The Tiguidit level stretches through the north of the municipality , beyond which the Aïr high mountains begin . The neighboring communities are Dabaga in the north, Tabelot in the east, Tarka and Tenhya in the south and Ingall in the west. The municipality is divided into 88 administrative villages, one traditional village, three hamlets, two camps and 54 water points. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Adarbisnat (also Aderbissinat). There are several important dinosaur cemeteries in the area around the village.

history

In the municipality is the Marandet settlement , one of the ancient centers of the Aïr. The French research and military expedition, Mission Foureau-Lamy, spent the night of October 22-23 , 1899 at the Aderbissinat fountain.

In 1988 an administrative post ( poste administratif ) was established in Aderbissinat, a lower administrative unit headed by a chef de poste administratif . Since 2011, the rural community no longer belongs to the Tchirozérine department , but to the newly created Aderbissinat department. The administrative post was raised to the capital of the department.

population

At the 2001 census, Aderbissinat had 17,540 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 35,320. The population is made up of Tuareg , Hausa and Arab ethnic groups.

Economy and Infrastructure

Aderbissinat is on the international Algiers-Lagos-Highway , which is important for the Trans-Saharan trade . Since the region shaped by the Harmattan wind belongs to the Sahel zone , drought catastrophes occur repeatedly. Goats, cattle and camels are the basis of life. While the southeast of the municipality is dominated by the desert, the southwest can be used for grazing. In the north, the mountain agriculture typical of the Aïr Mountains is practiced. A regional specialty is dry goat cheese. There is a cattle market in each of the villages of Aderbissinat and Tchintaborak. Market day in Aderbissinat is Wednesday, in Tchintaborak Saturday. A local radio communautaire has been in operation in the main town since August 2000 .

Parish partnership

Aderbissinat maintains a community partnership with the Communauté de communes de Guingamp , an association of the French communities of Grâces , Guingamp , Pabu , Plouisy , Ploumagoar and Saint-Agathon .
