Ted Buckner
Theodore Guy "Ted" Buckner (* 14. December 1913 in St. Louis , Missouri ; † 12. April 1976 in Detroit ) was an American swing - alto saxophonist .
Life
Ted Buckner was the brother of swing organist Milt Buckner . He grew up in Detroit, where he worked early in local bands, then with McKinney's Cotton Pickers . He was best known for his membership in the band of Jimmie Lunceford , to which he belonged from 1937 to 1943. After his work for Lunceford, Buckner played mainly with bands in Detroit, where he worked until the 1970s. He also led his own formations there, worked in Motown Studios and was the co-leader of a big band with Jimmy Wilkins , the brother of Ernie Wilkins . In 1975 he toured Europe and performed with a reorganization of New McKinney's Cotton Pickers .
