The partial girdle barbel ( Puntigrus partipentazona ( synonyms : Barbus partipentazona , Puntius partipentazona , Systomus partipentazona )) is a freshwater fish from the carp family (Cyprinidae). It occurs in the river basins of the Mekong , Mae Nam Chao Phraya and Mae Nam Mae Klong and in the coastal rivers of southeastern Thailand and Cambodia as well as on the Malay Peninsula .
features
The partial girdle barb is four (males) to five (females) centimeters long. Their body is typical of the species of Puntigrus . In their coloring it is very similar to the known from the hunting tiger barb . Their basic color is yellow-olive. Three black bars scan the sides of the body, a fourth goes through the eye. A fifth, below the dorsal fin, is, in contrast to the tiger barb, only partially developed and the reason for the German and the scientific name of the species ( Lat. / Gr .: "Pars" = part; "penta" = five; "zone") = Bandage). The species lacks the anterior maxillary barbels . The sideline is incomplete and only extends over 7 to 10 rows of scales. The last unbranched dorsal fin ray is sawn at its rear edge.
- Scale formula : SL 7-10.
Way of life
The partial girdle barbel occurs in central water regions and near the ground in small streams, ponds and lakes between dense aquatic vegetation. It feeds on zooplankton , insects and their larvae and plant material. Spawning females lay up to 500 eggs in batches of around three to five eggs. The fish larvae hatch after 24 to 30 hours and swim free after about 6 days.
