Traffic-calmed business area
A traffic-calmed business area in Germany - based on the stipulations of the Tempo 30 zone - is a speed zone with a maximum speed of less than 30 km / h according to Section 45 Paragraph 1d of the StVO . It is recommended in “central urban areas with a high number of pedestrians and a predominant residential function ” and is mainly used as a 20-speed zone . Due to the fact that it belongs to the Tempo 30 zone under road traffic law, its legal framework, guidelines and design options apply. The traffic-calmed business area was introduced on January 1, 1990 with the publication of the “Tenth Ordinance to Change the Road Traffic Act” ( Federal Law Gazette 1989 I p. 1976 ).
Application and use
As a link between the 30 km / h zone and the traffic-calmed area , the traffic-calmed business area is particularly suitable for calming down the traffic , some of which are listed inner city areas .
The low speeds improve traffic safety for pedestrians, especially since there is usually also a reduction in motorized through traffic . This is particularly relevant in the often narrow streets of inner cities, as well as if there are catering areas. Especially in historical pavement can range from a reduction in noise of the residents are considered. In general, the quality of stay in the traffic areas for pedestrians increases as the driving speed decreases. As a network element for cycling , it is also suitable for cycling .
Monument protection also benefits from the lower volume of traffic , as fewer vibrations occur due to the reduction in heavy traffic . At the same time, the mostly sensitive building fabric is exposed to fewer pollutants from combustion engines .
Because when a speed zone is set up over a large area, signs only need to be posted in the zone crossing, the traffic-calmed business area can help reduce the number of signs in the town centers.
