The Tengeliönjoki is a river in northwestern Finland in the landscape Lapland .
It forms the outflow of Lake Miekojärvi . From there it flows in a predominantly westerly direction to the Tornionjoki ( Swedish Torne älv ). It flows through the lakes Iso Lohijärvi and Portimojärvi . Before the Tengeliönjoki flows into the Tornionjoki at Ylitornio , it curves north around the mountain Aavasaksa . The 51 km long river drains an area of 3118 km². The mean discharge is 31 m³ / s.
The Portimokoski hydropower plant operated by Pohjolan Voima is not far from the estuary. It has been completed in 1987, has an installed power of 10.5 MW and a height of fall of 16.5 m.
