Tenthredo temula is a kind from the family of Real sawflies (Tenthredinidae).
Appearance
The plant wasps have a black basic color. They reach a body size of 10–12 mm. The clypeus , labrum and the base of the mandibles are colored yellow. The antennae and thorax are black. The abdomen has a black and yellow pattern. The third tergite is drawn in broad yellow throughout. The fourth tergite is yellow on the sides and black in the middle. The end of the abdomen is also yellow. The front two pairs of legs of the males have a yellow-black longitudinal markings, the rear femora and tibiae are black. The femora of the females are partly black, the tibiae yellow. Only the apical end of the posterior tibia is black. The transparent front wings have a yellow cast. The costa is reddish. The remaining wing veins are brown, the wing mark black.
distribution
The distribution area of Tenthredo temula extends over large parts of Europe. In the north, the occurrence extends to Great Britain and Sweden, in the east to Siberia.
Way of life
The typical habitat of the species is formed by hedges. The sawfly flight time lasts from May to the end of August. The adults feed on zoophytophagus. The food of the adults includes pollen and nectar of various umbelliferae such as meadow chervil , meadow hogweed , blackberry and common hawthorn . They also hunt small insects. The food plants of the larvae form privet ( Ligustrum ).
