Teresa Margareta of the Sacred Heart of Jesus , born Anna Maria Redi , (born  July 15, 1747 in Arezzo , Tuscany , †  March 7, 1770 in Florence ) was a nun in the Order of the Discalced Carmelites . She is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church .

Life

Anna Maria Redi came from a noble family and was raised by the Benedictine nuns in Florence. At a very young age she had mystical experiences and felt the calling for Carmel . On September 1, 1764, she entered the Carmel of Florence as a postulant, and on March 11, 1765, she took the religious name Teresa Margareta of the Sacred Heart of Jesus as her dress . Many acquaintances and almost the entire nobility of the city accompanied her to the monastery gate. She made her profession on March 12, 1766. On March 6th, 1770 an internal ulcer broke open and Sr. Teresa Margareta died the following day. Her intact body is buried in the choir of the Carmel of Florence.

Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart was born on June 9, 1929 beatified and on March 19, 1934, Pope Pius XI. canonized . Her feast day is March 7th, and September 1st in the Teresian Carmel's own calendar . Her religious name is given differently in German: Theresia Margarita, Teresa Margareta or Teresia Margareta. Contrary to the habit of religious , her surname is often added to her.
