Terrey Hills is a rural suburb of Sydney in New South Wales , Australia . It is 25 km from the city center, the Sydney Central Business District (Sydney CBD). In 2016, 3,041 people lived there.

history

The suburb is in the area of ​​a sandstone deposit , the Hawkesbury sandstone . In this area lived before European colonization, the Aboriginal people of Kuringai even Guringai written, of which some rock paintings have been preserved.

The rock carvings presumably depict hunting scenes with people carved into sandstone, kangaroos , wallabies and other footprints.

The name Terrey Hills is traced back to both the family names Obediah James Terrey and Samuel Hills . They were the first Europeans to take land there.

The first European settlements took place between about 1850 and 1880 years. In the period that followed, this development hardly increased. It only rose in the post-war years from 1945. In the 1990s the population decreased slightly, now it follows the population development of Sydney.

Terrey Hills also borders areas of Garigal National Park and Ku-ring-gai-Chase National Park .

The Terrey Hills Post Office opened on May 17, 1935.
