William Terrence "Terry" Hennessey (born September 1, 1942 in Llay ( Wrexham )) is a former Welsh football player.

Player career

Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and Derby County

Terry Hennessey played for Birmingham City from 1959 to 1965 . His greatest success in those years was winning the League Cup in 1962/63 by beating Aston Villa 3-1 and 0-0 . In November 1965 he moved to Nottingham Forest and reached with his new team in the Football League First Division 1966/67 the runner-up behind Manchester United . In the 1967/68 trade fair cup , he and his team failed in the second round at FC Zurich .

In February 1970 Brian Clough signed him for Derby County . His new club reached fourth place in the Football League First Division 1969/70 at the end of the season . This performance experienced a further increase in the 1971/72 season , when Derby won the English championship one point ahead of Leeds United , Liverpool FC and Manchester City . In the European Cup of National Champions 1972/73 , Hennessey failed with County only in the semi-finals at the Italian title holder Juventus Turin . At the end of the season, the injured Terry Hennessey ended his playing career.

National team

Hennessey was a member of the Welsh national team from 1962 to 1972 , for which he completed 39 internationals.
