Büblingshausen is the 4th district of the city of Wetzlar . It is located in the south of Wetzlar and is mainly characterized by many residential and modern single-family houses. The site of the former Spilburg barracks and the Leica world built southeast of it also belong to Büblingshausen.

Ancient Celtic settlement area. Later, before the 13th century, there was a settlement here in front of the walls of the old town of Wetzlar called Bubelingishusen . Between 1050 and 1250 AD, the plague claimed many victims in and around Wetzlar. When the plague had almost wiped out the population of the neighboring village of Bubelingishusen from the Bübelinge clan, three surviving women were taken in and cared for in Wetzlar. They then bequeathed their village to the city of Wetzlar. About 150 years later, however, this was completely abandoned by the residents.

With the establishment of the Spilburg barracks, parts of the district served as a parade ground and training area. During the First World War , a prisoner of war camp was set up here, mainly for Ukrainians. In the post-war period and after the camp was dissolved, a housing estate developed in the Büblingshausen area. After the Second World War , Büblingshausen quickly grew into a modern district. The size of the district also grew. A school, church and other institutions gradually followed.

When the Spilburg barracks were closed in the 1990s, a larger industrial park with many well-known companies, authorities, bars and restaurants was created there.

Single-family houses still dominate the picture, but there are also larger housing estates with multi-family houses on the Spilburg site. Some of them stood empty long after the American armed forces were withdrawn from Gießen and Wetzlar. Larger retail spaces can be reached quickly thanks to short distances. In the district itself there is a very active and well-known club life beyond the borders of Wetzlar.

The Spilburg and the Leica world have created many jobs on site. The Technical University of Central Hesse and the Adult Education Center in Wetzlar are also represented here. There are kindergartens and a primary school. A large school center with two upper secondary schools is only separated from the district by a main street. There are a variety of other public institutions, such as:

Infrastructure

Frankfurter Strasse , one of the main arterial roads in Wetzlar, runs along the western edge of the district . A state road leads through the district itself in the direction of Dutenhofen, which spatially separates Büblingshausen from the Spilburg. The Wetzlar Süd motorway junction on federal motorway 45 is only a few minutes away by car. The city bus lines 11, 12 and 12A of the Wetzlarer Verkehrsbetriebe as well as an overland line and the late bus service several stops in the district. There are therefore bus connections to Wetzlar city center and to Gießen. The next train stations are in Wetzlar and Dutenhofen .
