The facade, directly opposite the south facade of the palace, is in the Baroque style and the inner courtyard includes a garden with a fountain. Ticino was able to attract various French artists to decorate the interiors. In 1755 the architect's son, the statesman and diplomat Carl Gustaf Tessin , was forced to sell the palace to the royal family for economic reasons. Prince Karl was supposed to move in, but he found suitable rooms in the royal palace. The city of Stockholm then bought the palace as a residence for the chief governor.

The Tessinsche Palais has been a listed building as Byggnadsminne since 1965 . Since 1968 it has been the residence of the Governor of Stockholm County . Today the building is owned by the state.
