The time for the construction of the first town hall is not recorded. Since the construction of the Church of St. Peter and Paul began around 1215 and Teterow received town charter as early as 1235, the first town hall was probably built around this time. On August 18, 1700, after the great fire of 1632, there was a conflagration for the second time, which almost completely destroyed Teterow and the town hall in a few hours.

In 1708 a town hall was built in the Baroque style. This building was demolished in 1908 and today's two - storey neo - baroque town hall was built on the market square by 1910 . Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV had laid the foundation stone for this. The marketplace side of the “third” town hall is also divided into three parts, each with three window axes. The entrance leads through the projecting middle risalit . The building has a mansard roof overhanging an open, baroque turret.

From 1945 the house was used by the Soviet headquarters , the district council and the People's Police District Office . During this time, the city administration was housed in the former Hotel Mecklenburger Hof near the Malchiner Tor . After the reunification , the city administration took over the town hall again on February 13, 1990. In November 1992, during a hurricane, the top of the town hall dome and the gold-plated ball broke off and got stuck in the gutter.

The town hall was thoroughly renovated around 1993. This also applies to the balcony grille above the entrance, which shows the newly designed city coat of arms in gorgeous colors.

On the market square there is a commemorative plaque embedded in 1995, which marks the geographical center of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and the pike fountain, which is reminiscent of the pranks of the citizens . It was built to designs by the Plau sculptor Wilhelm Wandschneider and inaugurated in 1914.
