A few days before the start of the World Championships in Rettenbach, he started at the World Cup races in Maria Gugging and achieved eighth place in the slalom and 18th place in the giant slalom, with the same number of points as the Iranian Hamed Saveh Shemshaki, 61st place overall in the 2009 season. At the 2009 World Championships , he was the best Japanese in the Super Combined, twelfth in the giant slalom (at the same time as the Swiss Domenic Senn ) and 24th in the Super-G. In the slalom he was eliminated in the second run. After only taking part in the FIS races in Japan in the 2010 season, he was again the best Japanese at the 2011 World Championships in Goldingen, Switzerland . He reached fifth place in the slalom and was 15th in the giant slalom and 18th in the Super-G. He was only eliminated in the super combination. In addition to the World Championship, he only took part in the FIS races in Japan, as in the previous year, and in 2012 he only competed in FIS races in his home country.

From 2002 to 2006, Yashima also took part in several FIS and student races in alpine skiing as well as in the Japanese championships, but only made it into the top 30 once.
