Teufelskanzel (Eichsfeld)
The Teufelskanzel near Lindewerra in the west of the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld ( Germany ) is an at about 452 m above sea level. NHN situated red sandstone boulder on the ridge height Berg , who for Obereichsfeld and Lower Werra Bergland heard. It offers good prospects, especially of the Werra loop near Lindewerra.
Geographical location
The Teufelskanzel is located in the northwest of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park . It is located northeast above the local community Lindewerra ( Stockmacherdorf ) on the Werra on the ridge of the wooded Höheberg, around 1.1 kilometers (km) south-southeast of its summit on the Junkerkuppe ( 510.7 m ). The closest town is Bad Sooden-Allendorf , about 6 km south ; the district town of Heilbad Heiligenstadt lies around 13 km (as the crow flies ) to the northeast.
Possibility of viewing
In contrast to the summit of the wooded Junkerkuppe, the Teufelskanzel is a good vantage point, although it is also in the forest. From there the view falls on the horseshoe-shaped and about 312 meters lower lying Werraschleife (approx. 140 m ) near Lindewerra and Oberrieden as well as to the Hohen Meißner and Kaufunger forest in the north-east Hessian mountainous region.
Hiking, inn and legend
The Teufelskanzel can be reached on forest and hiking trails, for example during a walk on the Herkulesweg starting at the nearby Hanstein castle ruins , but also starting, for example, in the village of Lindewerra or at the Rothenbach homestead . A few meters south-southeast and a little below the rock is the small Teufelskanzel forest inn .
The legend of the Devil's Pulpit is widely known .
