Rothenbach is a homestead in Gerbershausen in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .
Geographical location
The farmstead Rothenbach is located west of Gerbershausen, from where a farm road leads to the plot. It is located to the east at the edge of the forest of the Höhebern , the highest point of which is the nearby Junkerkuppe ( 510.7 m above sea level ).
history
The Rothenbach homestead was first mentioned in a document on July 29, 1308. A precise assignment of documents to this place is not always possible with certainty, as there were also desolate villages of the same name near Wüstheuterode and Mengelrode.
In the 16th century, the family was Hanstein the Burg Hanstein on and settled among others on their territorial possessions in Rothenbach, Oberstein , Under Stone and after Ershausen . Presumably destroyed in the Thirty Years' War , the manor was then rebuilt by the Hansteiners.
Worth seeing
In the varied landscape around the farm there are a few possibilities for excursions:
- the hereditary burial of those von Hanstein
- small fish ponds
- a 500 year old oak tree as a natural monument and other old trees
- Hiking trails on the Höheberg, including to the Teufelskanzel (approx. 452 m )
