Laukkanen, who started for the Kuopion Poliisi-Urheilijat, won the 30 km run of Ounasvaara in 1943 . At the Lahti Ski Games in 1944, he won the 18 km run. The following year he became Finnish champion with the relay and over 30 km. In March 1947 he took second place over 18 km at the Lahti Ski Games. At the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , he won the silver medal with the relay. In the course of 18 km, he finished eighth there.
