Tezpur ( Assamese : তেজপুৰ , Tejapur ) is a place in the state of Assam in eastern India . Tezpur belongs to the Sonitpur District and is its administrative seat. The place had 75,000 inhabitants at the 2011 census. The history of the place goes back to the 8th century.

Since 1987, the 3015 m long Kolia Bhomora Setu bridge has crossed the Brahmaputra River and leads to the Nagaon district in the south . The city is the largest on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra. The Kameng flows into the Brahmaputra 7 km east of the city .

Tezpur is the seat of the diocese of Tezpur .
