The diocese of Tezpur ( Latin Dioecesis Tezpurensis , English Diocese of Tezpur ) is in India situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Tezpur .

history

The diocese of Tezpur was on January 16, 1964 by Pope Paul VI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Fidei catholicae from cessions of territory from the dioceses of Dibrugarh and Shillong . On March 30, 1992, the Diocese of Tezpur gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Guwahati . Another assignment of territory took place on December 7, 2005 to establish the diocese of Itanagar .

It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Guwahati as a suffragan .

The Diocese of Tezpur includes the districts Darrang , Dhemaji , Lakhimpur and Sonitpur and the district Nagaon lying subdivisions Kaliabor , Rupahihat and Samuguri in the state of Assam .
