Thaddäus Ignatius Wiskotschill (* 1753 in Prague , † January 21, 1795 in Dresden ), also Wiskotschil or Wiskotzil , Tadeáš Ignác Vyskočil in Czech , was a sculptor who worked in Dresden .

Life

Wiskotschill was born in Prague in 1753. After his father, a sculptor, died, Wiskotschill went on a hike and came to the Electoral Saxon capital in 1772 .

He made the groups of figures at the Palais der Secondogenitur in the Blüherpark . From 1774 he created the plastic jewelry at the Palais Brühl-Marcolini together with Johann Baptist Dorsch , including the lanterns and garden figures. This was set up in the Bürgerwiese after the reconstruction of the palace and was partially damaged when Dresden was destroyed in the Second World War.

The Saxon Minister Detlev Carl von Einsiedel had Wiskotschill carry out tests in iron casting in Lauchhammer from 1775 . In 1784, together with Joseph Mattersberger , he succeeded in casting an ancient figure of a bacchante in iron. He then returned to Dresden and first studied the antique collection .

From 1785 to 1787, Wiskotschill also worked with Dorsch to complete the sculptural decorations (including the satyrs ) in the Dresden Zwinger ; These were moved to Hauptstrasse in 1979 after the Zwinger was rebuilt . A vase was also created around 1785, which is still in the Pillnitz Castle Park today. In 1789, after Dorsch's death, Wiskotschill became a court sculptor in Dresden.

Wiskotschill died on January 21, 1795 and was buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery . His grave has not been preserved.
